Abstrakt

The article describes an important social initiative which is supporting the families of
chronically ill children, who need hospice care. The study presents selected terminological
issues related to chronic diseases and the idea of hospice care. The author referred to the
experiences, needs and problems experienced by family of people suffering from somatic
diseases. The article presents the forms and possibilities of supporting families of children
who have hospice care. The publication also describes the #The Silent Heroes initiative,
addressed to the families of dependent people who, due to the necessity of daily care for
patients, experience serious physical and mental difficulties. #The Silent Heroes program was
prepared and implemented by the Małopolska Hospice for Children Foundation in Krakow
